CommVault Integrates QiNetix 6.1 Unified Data Management Suite with Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2

Oceanport, N.J. — June 20, 2006 — CommVault®, a provider of Unified Data Management™ solutions, today announced integration of the CommVault QiNetix™ 6.1 Unified Data Management software suite with Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2.CommVault's interoperability with this Microsoft server virtualization technology offers users increased operational efficiency in server consolidation, application re-hosting, disaster recovery and software test and development environments.
Building upon CommVault's strong support of the .NET platform and existing applications, the integration of CommVault QiNetix 6.1 software with Virtual Server 2005 R2 offers Microsoft users ease of administration while reducing the costs associated with managing and protecting data. Users are able to:
- Consolidate multiple workloads from disparate sources — including data from remote offices — onto a physical server, making more efficient use of hardware resources.
- Simplify management of hardware resources.
- Automate deployment and configuration of connected virtual machines, administering those virtual machines with CommVault QiNetix management tools.
- Use Volume Shadow Copy Services to help protect individual virtual machines as well as Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2.
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 is used by corporate datacenters as a cost-effective server virtualization technology. As part of a server consolidation strategy, Virtual Server 2005 R2 increases hardware utilization and enables organizations to rapidly configure and deploy new servers.
Integration of QiNetix 6.1 with Virtual Server 2005 R2 extends QiNetix's data management and protection capabilities. The QiNetix product suite unifies backup and recovery, point-in-time replication, Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), archiving for compliance, Storage Resource Management (SRM) and service level management. From a single console, the suite's components share automated policy management and common job and event managers on the front end, and distributed metadata indices, media management and copy management on the back end. The QiNetix suite, built upon CommVault's Common Technology Engine, integrates Galaxy backup and recovery, snapshot management and recovery, active data migration and archiving, email compliance, enterprise service level management and reporting and storage resource management software solutions.
